TK-790 and KPG44 software. Use software to enable "Main Programming" by checkmark. Set Squelch for NARROW band on earlier radios as they were not ever done at the factory; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16zh85wNi8U 1. Hold PF1 (first one to the right of channel knob, "HA" on mine) while turning on radio. 2. Release PF1 then tap group (zone) UP button. 3. Rotate channel knob to get "n" in display to select "narrow" settings. 4. PF1 and PF2 to go up or down thru the menus. 5. Write down the "Squelch tight" and "Squelch open" numbers. 6. Use PF3 & 4 to change values. 7. Typically move the "tight" from 190 to 220. 8. Tap PF5 (AUXC on mine) to WRITE the value. 9. Move "Squelch open" from 142 to 165, then tap PF5. (If you make a mistake, just don't hit PF5 and turn off the radio to exit without saving). For FW firmware; 1. Hold down PF2 button and trun on radio to enter firmware programming mode. (Tap PF5 (MON?) to display version if desired) 2. Go into 'C' drive >program files > Kenwood FPU > KPG44D > FRPO 3. Set Com port, set baud rate on both radio and PC (If I remember correctly, turn the channel knob on radio to set baude rate, that or grp up/grp dn buttons) In my past expirence, slower baud rate is better, I've had problems in the the past using 115,200. 4.Click the "folder" button to find the file 5.Click write. 6. The radio should display the check sum when finished, reboot radio. I always recommend that the PC is not multitasking in any way when doing stuff like this.( Including screen saver mode) The last thing you need is the the PC going unresponsive during a firmware upload because its doing other stuff at the same time. Thats a surefire way to brick the radio.
