1   INTRODUCTION
==================================================================

<< FUNCTIONAL SUMMARY >>

KPG-32D software is a tool for programming the TK-259 and TK-359
transceivers. The software allows a user to enter programming data into an
appropriate computer, and then transfer this data to a transceiver. The
entered data can also be printed out to provide a permanent record.
Additionally, data that is already programmed in a TK-259 or TK-359
transceiver can be retrieved and edited using a computer that is running the
KPG-32D software.

<< SUPPLIED ITEMS >>

Your programming software package includes the following:

* 2 floppy disks: 3.5", 1.44 MB
     1  "KPG-32D   PROGRAMMING DISK"   containing:
        * KPG-32D program files
        * Instruction manual file

     2  "PROGRAMMING MANUAL"  containing:
        * Programming manual file

* Installation manual B62-0713-XX

<< SUPPORTED TRANSCEIVERS >>

This programming software supports the following transceivers:

* TK-259 (250 channels)
* TK-359 (250 channels)

<< HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS >>

< COMPUTER >

The software was designed for use on IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 and compatible
computers with RAM (memory) capacity of at least 460 kB.

< OPERATING SYSTEM >

The operating system must be IBM DOS Version 3.1 (or later) or equivalent.

< COMMUNICATION PORT >

Data is transferred between the computer and transceiver via a serial
communication port on the computer. The port must be compatible with the IBM
asynchronous communications adapter. Either the COM1 or COM2 port on the
computer may be used.

< COMMUNICATION INTERFACE >

A KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable connects the computer to the transceiver.

2   CONNECTING THE EQUIPMENT
==================================================================

Connect the KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable between the transceiver and the computer
before attempting to use the KPG-32D programming software.

1) Switch OFF the power to the computer.
     Refer to the computer operating manual for set-up details.

2) Connect the 25-pin connector on the KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable to the COM1 or
     COM2 connector on the computer. If the computer has a 9-pin connector
     for COM1 or COM2, use a commercially available 9-pin to 25-pin
     adapter.

3) Switch ON the power to the computer.

4) Install and start the KPG-32D program. Refer to sections
     "3 INSTALLING THE PROGRAM" and "5 STARTING THE PROGRAM" for details.

5) Switch OFF the power to the transceiver.

6) Connect the other end of the KPG-8 or KPG-22 cable to the
     speaker/microphone jacks on the transceiver.

7.) While holding down the [LMP] and [CALL] keys switch ON the power to the
     transceiver. Approximately two seconds after switching on the power,
     the transceiver enters PC mode and "-PC-" appears on the display.

Note: When data is transferred from the computer to the transceiver (Program
Read, Program Write), the transceiver automatically will enter PC mode;
however, this method does not work 100% of the time. For convenience
purposes, you might try first transferring data before putting the
transceiver in PC mode. If the transceiver fails to enter PC mode, then use
the formal way as described in step 7.

3   INSTALLING THE PROGRAM
==================================================================

After completing all physical connections, you are ready to install the
programming software. The first procedure describes installing on a hard
disk while the second procedure describes installing on a floppy disk.

<< INSTALLING ON A HARD DISK >>

This procedure assumes that the hard disk is installed as drive C.

1) Insert the "KPG-32D PROGRAMMING DISK" (source disk) into drive A.

2) Type A: then press [Enter].
     "A:\>" appears on the computer display.

3) Type INSTALL C: then press [Enter].
     The installation program copies the necessary files from the source disk
     in drive A to the hard disk.

<< INSTALLING ON A FLOPPY DISK >>

This procedure assumes the source drive as A, and the destination drive as B.

1) Insert the "KPG-32D PROGRAMMING DISK" (source disk) into drive A.

2) Insert the floppy disk that will receive the software (destination disk)
     into drive B.

3) Type A: then press [Enter].
     "A:\>" appears on the computer display.

4) Type INSTALL B: then press [Enter].
     The installation program copies the necessary files from the source disk
     in drive A to the destination disk in drive B.

5   BASIC OPERATIONS
==================================================================

<< STARTING THE PROGRAM >>

With the software correctly installed, you can now proceed to running the
program and learning the necessary techniques for programming the TK-259 and
TK-359 transceivers.

1) Make the directory containing the installed programming software the
     current directory.
     If the software was installed on a floppy disk, first insert the floppy
     disk into a drive, then make that drive the current drive.

2) Type KPG32D then press [Enter].
     The program starts and the introductory screen appears. If an error
     occurs try reinstalling the program (3 INSTALLING THE PROGRAM).

<< INITIAL SCREEN >>

The primary display is referred to as the Initial Screen. The Initial Screen
is the first screen to appear after the introductory screen. After starting
the program, press any key to clear the introductory screen and open the
Initial Screen.

The Initial Screen consists of three parts:

* The upper part of the screen contains the Menu Bar.

* The central part contains the Channel Information window.

* The bottom of the screen contains a Key Summary.

Brief introductions to each of the three parts of the Initial Screen follow;
however, more detailed information is provided later in this manual.

< MENU BAR >

The Menu Bar contains the titles of the various menus available. The word
"menus" is being used to refer to titles under which items are grouped that
are required to open windows to edit and/or process data, and to execute
commands.

< CHANNEL INFORMATION WINDOW >

The Channel Information window is used to specify frequencies and signaling
information in specific channels of the TK-259 and TK-359 transceivers.

< KEY SUMMARY >

Keys frequently used to access the screens and functions in this program are
listed below:
