Reset a Virtual Machine in the vSphere Web Client

The reset operation is analogous to pressing the reset button on a virtual machine.

An alternative to the reset operation is the restart operation, which uses VMware Tools to gracefully restart the guest operating system. In certain situations, such as when VMware Tools is not installed or the guest operating system is not responding, the restart might not succeed and the reset operation is necessary.

Prerequisites

Required privilege: Virtual machine.Interaction.Reset on the virtual machine.

Procedure

Select a virtual machine.

■	In the virtual machines and templates inventory tree, select a group of virtual machines and select a virtual machine from the list on the right.
■	Search for a virtual machine and select it from the search results list.

Right-click the virtual machine and select Power > Reset.
