Use the Select Migration Type page to select the type of migration.

You cannot simultaneously change the execution host and the datastore location for a powered-on virtual machine. To change both the execution host and the storage location of a virtual machine without powering it off, you must perform a migration with vMotion and a migration with Storage vMotion as two separate steps.

Procedure

Select a virtual machine.

In the virtual machines and templates inventory tree, select a group of virtual machines and select a virtual machine from the list on the right.

Search for a virtual machine and select it from the search results list.

Right-click the virtual machine and select Inventory > Migration.

Select the migration type.

Option

Description

Change host

Move the virtual machine to another host.

Change datastore

Move the virtual machine’s storage to another datastore.

Change both host and datastore

Move the virtual machine to another host and move its storage to another datastore. (This option is not available for a powered-on virtual machine.)
