Jan. 1996 DE-620 Ethernet Card NDIS Driver Installation for BANYAN VINES ========================================= ******************************************************* * Installing the NDIS driver to Banyan VINES v4.00(2) * ******************************************************* NOTE : To install the NDIS driver program, you need Banyan VINES v4.00(2) or above. 1. Create a bootable diskette (with DOS 3.1 or above) for use on the Banyan VINES workstation or create a subdirectory on your hard disk. There are two methods of copying files from the Banyan VINES workstation to the bootable diskette or subdirectory on the hard disk. Method 1: 1) Execute the 'INSTALL' command included in the diskette labeled "VINES MASTER DISK". 2) Follow the given instructions for copying files. Method 2: 1) Execute the 'BAN' command. 2) Login to VINES system. 3) Execute the 'PCCOPY' command. 4) Select the 'NDIS Ethernet' option and follow the instructions for copying files. 2. Insert the driver program diskette in Drive A and the prepared bootable diskette in Drive B. Then, copy the appropriate NDIS driver file DE620.DOS from Drive A to Drive B or to the subdirectory of the hard disk. 3. Create a CONFIG.SYS file with the following statements: DEVICE=PROTMAN.DOS /I:A:\ DEVICE=DE620.DOS NOTE: A:\ is the path where Banyan VINES workstation files reside. 4. Create a DE620.NIF file containing the following statements: Model = DE-620 Ethernet Card Path = A:\ DeviceDriver = DE620.DOS DeviceName = DE620$ Type = NDIS NOTE: A:\ is the path where Banyan VINES workstation files reside. 5. Create a PROTOCOL.INI file with the following lines: [PROTOCOL MANAGER] drivername = PROTMAN$ [VINES_XIF] drivername = NDISBAN$ bindings = "DE620" [DE620] drivername = DE620$ 6. Execute the 'PCCONFIG' command. A "CONFIGURING A PC FOR THE NETWORK" message appears on the screen. The program then provides some options you can select from. 7. Select "1 - Network Card Settings". Another screen appears for selecting some options. 8. Select "NDIS Ethernet". 9. Select the appropriate configuration of the adapter. 10. After configuring the adapter, you return to the main screen. Select " 2 - Login Environment Settings". 11. From the next screen, select "NDIS Ethernet". The 'PCCONFIG.DB' file will then be created. 12. Reboot your computer. 13. Login to VINES by executing the 'BAN' command.
